§ 58-5. Nonconforming existing signs.

Latest version.
  • Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, any sign lawfully permitted, erected, and in existence, on the effective date of this chapter (October 18, 2010), which does not meet the requirements of this chapter, may be maintained and allowed to continue as a legal nonconforming use.

As an incentive to remove nonconforming existing signs a fee is not required for a permit to demolish or remove a nonconforming sign erected prior to adoption of this chapter. Additionally, where a new conforming sign is erected in place of a nonconforming sign a fee is not required for a permit within the seven years following the adoption of this chapter. However, no permits shall be issued for a new or additional on-premises sign where a nonconforming sign exists or is allowed to remain.
