§ 14-28. Minimum ceiling heights; mini mum floor area.

  • (a)

    Habitable space rooms, other than kitchens, storage rooms and laundry rooms, shall home a ceiling height of not less than seven feet six inches.

    (b)

    Hallways, corridors, bathrooms, water closet rooms and kitchens shall have a ceiling height of not less than seven feet measured to the lowest projection from the ceiling.

    (c)

    If any room in a building has a sloping ceiling or sloping walls, the prescribed ceiling height for the room is required in only one-half the area thereof. No portion of the room measuring less than five feet from the finished floor to the finished ceiling of sloping walls shall be included in any computation of the minimum living area thereof.

    (d)

    If any room has a furred ceiling, the prescribed ceiling heights is required in one-third of the area thereof, but in no case shall the height of the furred ceiling be less than seven feet.

    (e)

    Every dwelling unit shall have at least one room which shall have not less than 150 square feet of floor area. Other habitable rooms except kitchens shall have an area of not less than 70 square feet.

    (f)

    Ceiling heights shall be the clear vertical distance from the finished floor to the finished ceiling.
